The third Luke Freeman Memorial Football Tournament took place on 29 June.
A time for all Luke’s friends to celebrate his life and a small amount of money raised through donations.

The big event for this year was the launch of FreeMan Fest by a group of Luke’s close friends.

Held on 6 July at the Purple Turtle, it obviously featured sets by Songer and Daneo as well as other musicians and DJs from the Reading area and beyond.

It was a long day and much alcohol was consumed but it was fantastic. Enhanced by England beating Switzerland in the Euros quarter final, played out in front of us on the big screen.

See the gallery for lots of fab photos!

We were able to donate £3,000 from this event to Reading’s Community Trust which is amazing.

A big thank you to everyone involved and to Richard Witt for arranging the on-pitch presentation of the cheque at the Reading v Stevenage match, which was held on Community Day, 15 March 2025.

Looking forward to FreeMan Fest in July 2025!

Menna only found the time to complete a few miles of the South West Coastal Path, walking from Combe Martin to Ilfracombe with Eileen. More miles were planned from Barnstaple to Westward Ho! for Saturday but unfortunately terrible March weather put paid to that and all that was achieved was a pub lunch in Appledore (by car) before Menna had to get her train home as the next day was Mothers Day.

More walking is planned for 2025.

The summer was dedicated to becoming grandparents, Luke’s nephew Joey was unbelievably born on 2 July, exactly 5 years to the day that we lost Luke!

If you have any ideas for funding raising and/or would like to be involved, please get in touch, we would love it!
